CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury emphasized the importance of forming a broad front of secular forces to defeat the BJP in the upcoming election and protect the Constitution. He urged all democratic forces in the country to prevent the BJP from gaining power and using it to undermine the Constitution, stating that India is facing challenges such as rising unemployment and declining global indices. Yechury also expressed concern about the pending petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Kashmir, urging the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing to prevent irreversible changes. The CPIM reiterated its commitment to Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India but emphasized the need for fulfilling promises made during accession. Yechury criticized the influence of political corruption in electoral victories, calling for unity among secular forces to protect the country and its democratic principles. The state conference also adopted a resolution to address the hardships faced by the people of the region and fight for their constitutional rights. Yechury condemned the violence in Birbhum, attributing it to both the BJP and the TMC, and called for an end to the culture of violence in politics.
